These papers consist of a typescript of anecdotes written by Dr. Vinson in 1953 relaying his experiences as a student, at a tuberculosis sanitarium in New York state, at Montreal General Hospital, with the medical corps in Italy during World War I, and reminiscences of colleagues at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Vinson titled the typescript, "Doctors I Have Known."

The printed materials are copies of articles about Hayes. The literary material from his years as a student at Davidson College includes poetry and prose.
